Known for its blend of regal architecture and refined hospitality, the hotel offers an experience rooted in tradition, elegance, and comfort. However, the management envisioned taking guest satisfaction to the next level by bringing modern-day smart convenience into the rooms, but without disturbing the charm or structure of its centuries-old heritage.

The goal was simple yet challenging: enable guests to connect with the butler through voice commands while ensuring that the solution required no rewiring, no civil work, and absolutely no compromise to the aesthetics or authenticity of the interiors. In short, the hotel needed a solution that was smart, seamless, and sensitive to its cultural soul.

Understanding the Challenge

The heritage status of the building placed strict limitations on physical alterations.

No walls could be drilled, and no wiring could be changed. The interiors, rich with antique finishes and old-world charm, had to remain untouched. On the technical side, the system had to be fast, reliable, and intuitive, ensuring real-time communication between guests and the hotel’s service team.

The Smart Node Solution

Smart Node stepped in with a completely wireless, retrofit-friendly solution tailored precisely to the hotel’s needs. Our approach centered on enabling voice-based service requests using smart automation, executed in a manner that respected the property’s historic value.

Amazon Alexa was integrated into the guest rooms, allowing guests to simply speak out their service needs. Smart Node’s wireless modules were discreetly installed behind the existing switchboards, without a single screw touching the original design.

The butler’s room was equipped with a receiver unit that featured both a buzzer and a visual light indicator. This ensured that even the smallest voice request from a guest room triggered an immediate, clear response. To further optimise the experience, we developed an auto-off feature for the buzzer, enhancing both noise control and energy efficiency.

Not a single wire was altered. Not a single decorative element was disturbed. And yet, the experience of staying in a centuries-old property was now infused with the comfort of 21st-century smart hospitality.
